Richton Park’s K9 Officer Aaron Receives Ballistic Vest

K9 Aaron is assigned to Officer Ryan Dahlberg of the Richton Park Police Department. K9 Aaron is a two-year-old German Shepherd and is a certified in Patrol, Tracking, and Narcotics. Aaron was purchased from Advanced Detection in Lynwood, IL.

K9 Aaron will also receive a Naloxone (Narcan) Reversal Overdose Kit and a K9 Medical First Aid Kit that was donated to him by Protecting K9 Heroes.

Naloxone, also known as Narcan, blocks the effects of opioids and reverses overdoses within 2-5 minutes. The kit comes preassembled with all the supplies that are needed to safely administer Naloxone. Each kit includes one 2ml Naloxone luer lock syringe, once mucosal atomization device, one pair of nitrile gloves, one CPR face shield, a use documentation card, and educational insert. After being administered, the K9 must still be seen by a veterinarian. Unfortunately, we are losing K9s to the drug epidemic during searches and our goal is to have their handlers properly equipped in the case of emergencies. Handlers are instructed to receive training from their local veterinarians on the proper use of this product.

The Multi-Threat Ballistic Vests are provided by Armor Express and weigh approximately 4-5 pounds based upon the ballistics level chosen by the handler. Each vest is custom sized for each K9 and has a warranty of five years.

Protecting K9 Heroes NFP Ltd is based out of Lynwood, IL.  They are a charity based organization that is able to protect K9’s through donations and support from the community. It is their mission to reduce the amount of K-9 related deaths throughout the United States by supplying as many of them with the protection they need.  The organization offers Multi-Threat Ballistic Vests, K9 First Aid Kits, and Naloxone (Narcan) Kits. If you are interested in donating, you may donate through their website at www.protectingk9heroes.com and can be reached at 708-480-2292. You can also follow Protecting K9 Heroes on Facebook!
