[ARCHIVED] Rich Township Raptors Win Big Dipper Championship

The Rich Township Raptors have soared to historic heights, clinching the Big Dipper Basketball Tournament Championship. This epic victory marks the district's first championship in the tournament since 2003, solidifying the Raptors' place among the elite in Illinois high school basketball.

The tournament, featuring top-tier talent from across the region, like Kenwood Academy and Homewood Flossmoor, saw the Raptors rise to the challenge, showcasing exceptional teamwork, determination, and skill. Their hard work culminated in this historic win, marking a turning point for the program.

Adding to the celebration, standout athlete Al Brooks Jr. was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player (MVP). His leadership on and off the court and outstanding performances made him a clear choice for this prestigious honor.

Additionally, Rich Township players Jamson Coulter and Al Brooks Jr. were named to the prestigious Big Dipper All-Tournament Team, selected by coaches from all participating teams. Their standout performances highlighted the depth of talent on this year’s squad.

Rich Township head coach Lou Adams was also awarded the Outstanding Coach Award. His strategic leadership, dedication to his players, and commitment to excellence have been instrumental in the team’s success.

"This championship is a testament to the hard work, dedication, and resilience of our players, coaches, and the entire Rich Township community," said Dr. Johnnie Thomas, Superintendent of Rich Township High School District 227. "The Raptors have brought pride and excitement to our district, and we look forward to many more accomplishments in the future."

Coach Lou Adams reflected on the team’s victory: "This was an incredible journey for our team. The players believed in each other and worked hard every step of the way. To bring this championship home after so many years is truly special. I couldn’t be prouder of these young men."

Rich Township High School District 227 congratulates the Raptors on this unforgettable milestone and thanks the community for their support. Together, we celebrate this new chapter in Rich Township athletics!
