Incident: Homicide Investigation UPDATE | Release Date: 12/30/2025
On December 29, 2025, Richton Park Police Department was notified by the Cook County State’s Attorney - Felony Review Unit that criminal charges were approved for two (2) counts of First Degree Murder. Javonte T. Morris (Male, Date of Birth, 08-30-2004) has been formally charged and processed on the felony charges at the Richton Park Police Department. Javonte T. Morris was transported to the Cook County Jail for lodging.
The Richton Park Police Department would like to thank the Cook County State’s Attorney Office - Felony Review Unit, The Illinois State Police, the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office and the Richton Park Fire Department for their assistance. The Village of Richton Park and the Police Department would like to express their sincerest condolences to the family and friends of the victims involved, and everyone affected by this tragedy.

Incident: Homicide Investigation | Release Date: 12/29/2025
On December 27, 2025 at approximately 6:37pm, Richton Park Police Officers responded to a radio call for shots fired on the 22400 block of Richton Square Rd. Upon investigation, officers learned that a shooting had occurred at an apartment in the 22500 block of Jackson Ct.
Officers responded to the apartment and located two unresponsive individuals inside an apartment unit. As Richton Park Fire personnel responded to the scene, it was determined that the two individuals were deceased.
A small child was located inside the apartment by first responders as well. Fire assessed the child on scene, who was uninjured and later released to the care of a parent at the police station.
Richton Park Detectives were immediately notified and responded to the scene for investigative purposes. Officers located one male individual during the initial call for service on a nearby street in Richton Park. Officers determined through preliminary investigative efforts that the male was inside the apartment during the incident and was immediately detained by police for additional questioning. The individual was transported to the Richton Park Police Department by detectives.
The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office was then notified. It had been determined that both individuals died as a result of sustaining gunshot wounds.
The male subject remains in police custody at this time, pending further investigation.
The Illinois State Police responded, and processed the apartment for evidentiary purposes. A firearm was collected by investigators. The Cook County State’s Attorney - Felony Review Division was notified and is reviewing the case for criminal charges against the male subject in police custody.
This incident remains an active investigation at this time.
All individuals are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
